Once Saved Always Saved?

I used to publish articles on Helium.com, a free Web site that works like a blog, discussion forum and citizen journalism site all at once.  My favorite article is the first one I ever wrote.  The article was titled "Once Saved, Always Saved?" and tackles the question of salvation.  It has received the highest ratings of any of my articles at Helium, and even after two years it is still voted the best of 22 articles.  It's too long to post here (even by my standards), but I'm proud of it, and I want to make it available to you.  So here is the link.  If you want to read it, feel free and leave comments here.  If not, I understand.  My blogs are long enough as it is.  :)

  1. In their purest forms Calvinism (predestination) and Arminianism (free-will) are almost indistinguishable. Unfortunately (as I understand it) some Christians liked the certainty of Calvinism and the free will of Arminianism too much to to chose which philosophy they liked best. So they merged them into something that is less Biblical than either parent philosophy. A sad turn of events indeed. They effectively eliminated personal responsibility without demolishing personal glory (if it went bad, it was because God decreed it so; if it worked, it was because I planned it so).

You did a much better job reasoning it out than I just did. I was never raised to believe it. My denominational background out-right opposes it. I doubt you are in the minority (especially as attested by the positive response you have received). I think most people just haven't put as much thought into it as you have.
